About Clash Royale
Clash Royale is a real-time strategy game from Supercell that combines card collecting, tower defence and short multiplayer battles. Two players face each other on a small arena split by a river. Each side has three towers: two smaller ones at the front and a larger king tower behind. You play cards to send troops, cast spells or place buildings, and the goal is to destroy more of the opponent’s towers than they destroy of yours within a time limit. Matches take only a few minutes, which makes the game ideal for short breaks.
How a battle works
You have a deck of eight cards, and at any time you can use four of them. Cards cost elixir, which fills steadily during the match. Choosing when to spend elixir is central to the game. Spending too early can leave you defenceless, while waiting too long can waste the chance to build pressure. Troops move automatically to the nearest enemy structure, so your decisions are about timing and placement. Counter-play is important, since each card has a strength and a weakness.
Cards, decks and progression
You collect cards by opening chests that you earn by winning battles. Cards can be upgraded by collecting duplicates and spending gold. As your level rises, you move up through arenas with new cards and stronger opponents. A deck should include a mix of troops, spells and buildings, along with a balance of low-cost and high-cost cards. Many players spend time testing decks and watching replays to improve their play.
Modes and events
Besides ladder matches, there are friendly battles, tournaments, special challenges and clan activities. Seasonal events change the rules or provide unusual cards. Clans allow players to share cards and chat. Some events offer free rewards, so it is worth checking the event tab regularly.
Tips for improvement
Start with a simple, balanced deck rather than a collection of expensive cards. Learn the elixir cost of your cards, and avoid overcommitting. Defend first and counter-attack when your opponent has spent elixir. Place buildings and troops in positions that exploit the opponent’s weak spots. Do not copy a deck without understanding it. Review your losses to see which cards were hard to answer.
Chests, gems and purchases
The game uses chests and timers that determine when rewards arrive. Gems and other items can be purchased, and some offers appear often. The randomness of card drops means that spending does not guarantee a particular card. Set limits and talk with children about this system. Free progress is possible, though slower.
Age suitability
The visuals are cartoon-like and the battles are not graphic, but the game includes online play, chat and purchase prompts. Check the age rating and review safety settings before allowing children to play.
Who it suits
It suits players who enjoy quick tactical matches and collecting cards, and those who like competitive play. It may frustrate players who dislike luck or timers.
How it compares
Compared with Clash of Clans, it is faster and card-based. Compared with Kingdom Rush, it is competitive instead of single-player.
Our take
Clash Royale is a sharp, fast strategy game with strong competitive appeal. When you are ready, the official Google Play link is on this page.
